C138 – Extra 6 – Raising A Cub (I)

In the blink of an eye, Duan Hengye and Meng Jinhuai had been together for some time now. And a big thing that they had been thinking about for a long time had finally been put on their agenda: to have a child of their own. As the “Director Duan” alone, Duan Hengye was already very lonely, having lost many memories of his past, and the only relative he had left in this world was also estranged from him. As an “Earth” traveler, he was a complete stranger to this world, and although Duan Hengye was already familiar with this world, he still didn’t have much of a sense of belonging.

Therefore, ever since Duan Hengye told Meng Jinhuai stories related to the Earth era, Meng Jinhuai came up with this idea. After a long time of thinking and preparation, the two of them finally avoided the interstellar media and “secretly” accomplished this big event. In reality, no one in the interstellar era would choose to give birth to a child by themselves, even if it was between two people of the opposite gender. After all, this was a matter full of risks, and the use of genetic technology for technological cultivation was undoubtedly a simple and convenient thing.

With the development of technology, this technology had long since become a very mature and basic program. That was why Duan Hengye and Meng Jinhuai’s preparations weren’t to find an organization with the most mature technology, but rather to find a more hidden organization. Even though the two weren’t celebrities, the attention they received wasn’t any less than that of any celebrity. As people who didn’t need to rely on attention to live, they still wanted to do their best to keep a low profile.

One had to praise Duan Hengye and Meng Jinhuai for keeping their mouths shut. Until after this big event was completed, none of the people around them knew about it.

……

At the other end of Southern Star, a white building stood at the corner of the city. This was a scientific research building, and it was also where Duan Hengye and Meng Jinhuai were aiming to be. At noon, a silver-gray hovercraft slowly approached the side wall of the building and hovered there. Some pedestrians walking near the street happened to look up and see the hovercraft, but no one paid any attention to it. Although this silver-gray hovercraft was the highest-end model in the current interplanetary world, those who were familiar with this building knew that although it was a technological building, the major organizations inside all catered to “aristocrats.” Therefore, the appearance of such a luxury-type hovercraft at the top wasn’t something worth being surprised by.

At the same time, when the hovercraft was connected to the side of the building, the hatch slowly opened.

Duan Hengye, wearing a long black trench coat, walked out of the hovercraft along with Meng Jinhuai and then stood in the heavily carpeted but empty corridor. In theory, for the most truly honored guests—intergalactic heavyweights like Duan Hengye and Meng Jinhuai—to visit, this place would have to send someone to receive them. But in reality, the reason why Duan Hengye and Meng Jinhuai chose this place was because of the protection that this side provided to the visitors.

The thick carpet swallowed up all footsteps, and after standing there, Duan Hengye couldn’t help but feel nervous. His hands were tightly clasped together, and his knuckles were white. Meng Jinhuai noticed this, and after seeing Duan Hengye in this tense manner, he instead couldn’t help but laugh.

Meng Jinhuai gently pulled Duan Hengye’s hand up, then whispered in Duan Hengye’s ear, ”What’s wrong? Wasn’t Ah Heng calm before? Why are you nervous here?” In the previous period of time, Meng Jinhuai had to look at the child’s situation through the light device almost every day, and like every father-to-be, he was often agitated and even lost sleep over it. But in stark contrast to him, the other soon-to-be father, Duan Hengye, acted as if he didn’t care about it.

But now, after holding Duan Hengye’s hand and feeling his cold body temperature, Meng Jinhuai realized that he wasn’t indifferent to this matter, but… the reflex arc was just a bit long.

Duan Hengye knew that Meng Jinhuai was trying to relieve his nervousness.

He shook his head and said truthfully, “Hmm. I used to feel like I was dreaming, but I just realized that this was actually happening.” It wasn’t surprising that Duan Hengye’s reaction was slow; after all, most of the memories in his brain now belonged to the Earth Age. So deep down in Duan Hengye’s heart, his concept of children was still limited to that. After realizing his s*exual orientation in his youth, Duan Hengye never thought about having children. Therefore, although he had been busy with Meng Jinhuai in the past few months, it really seemed like a dream, and he didn’t have much of a concept of it.

But Meng Jinhuai was different; born in the interstellar era, he inherently didn’t feel that having a child between people of the same gender was a strange thing. So during this period of time, although the people around him didn’t know what was going on, anyone who saw Meng Jinhuai would feel that he was a little different from his usual self.

Right at this time, there was finally a robot that moved over from the other end of the corridor. After seeing it, Duan Hengye and Meng Jinhuai immediately became serious and proceeded to follow the robot as they walked forward together. This corridor was very long, with hundreds of rooms of all sizes spread out on both sides, and just to ensure safety, after determining the time of the two’s arrival, the rest of the visitors on the entire floor were scheduled for other times.

Duan Hengye and Meng Jinhuai finally arrived at their destination. After passing through a series of hurdles for identity checks, the extremely thick white room door slowly opened in front of the two of them. Unlike the laboratory to which Duan Hengye was accustomed, this place was decorated in a very cozy manner, just like an ordinary bedroom at home.

After entering the room, the door behind Duan Hengye slowly closed.

Meng Jinhuai wanted to move forward, but he soon noticed Duan Hengye, who was standing still.

At this moment, Duan Hengye practically had the word “nervous” on his face. Seeing his usual calm lover reveal such an expression, Meng Jinhuai’s heart became extremely tender. He pulled Duan Hengye with one hand and placed one hand on his shoulder, then said, “Let’s go over together.”

“Uhm…” After a delay of a moment, Duan Hengye slowly nodded.

Although Duan Hengye wasn’t as concerned about this matter as Meng Jinhuai was, he was also the other father who was involved in the whole thing. Therefore, he knew that the child he was about to meet wouldn’t have the wrinkled appearance of a newborn baby but would be about half a month old. After thinking about this, Duan Hengye’s nervousness finally got a little smaller.

After seeing Duan Hengye slow down, Meng Jinhuai finally led him forward. Just after two steps, a log-textured crib appeared in front of Duan Hengye’s eyes. Because of the angle, Duan Hengye couldn’t see the appearance of the child in the bed yet, but he, who had a clear perception of the changes in the surroundings, was now able to clearly feel the existence of a small life.

This was the child of him and Meng Jinhuai; how amazing!

With this thought in his heart, Duan Hengye’s footsteps didn’t stop, and in a moment’s time, he stood in front of the crib along with Meng Jinhuai. Although the two of them were able to monitor the child’s status in real time with their light devices, due to a series of complicated human rights treaties in the interstellar world, they were unable to directly see the appearance of the “unborn” child.

Whether it was Duan Hengye or Meng Jinhuai, both of them had a bunch of “special ways” to break through the restrictions, but they didn’t do it. Aside from the system automatically informing them that the baby’s gender was male a few months ago, the two of them had no knowledge of any other information.

Finally, Duan Hengye lowered his head and saw his child. Inside the soft beige bedding, there was a soft and incomparably tiny lump hidden. His skin was very fair, but it was different from Duan Hengye’s pallor; it was a healthy and pinkish white. The child’s eyes were very similar to Duan Hengye’s, but the overall outline had more of Meng Jinhuai’s features.

Seeing that Duan Hengye had been looking down without saying anything, Meng Jinhuai gently bumped him with his arm and asked, “What are you thinking about?”

Duan Hengye honestly replied, “I’m looking at who he looks more like.” After hearing Duan Hengye answer, Meng Jinhuai couldn’t help but laugh out, “It’s only just been born; you’ll be able to tell later.” Then he, who had already been upgraded to a father, finally couldn’t help but reach out his hand and gently touch this child, who was looking at him and Meng Jinhuai with wide, open eyes.

It looked like the little guy was living a good life; his face was chubby, so Meng Jinhuai couldn’t help but poke him slightly. This behavior was very inconsistent with his status as a marshal. It must be said that Duan Hengye and Meng Jinhuai were clearly two mature and steady people, but recently it seemed that every time they got together, they became incredibly childish.

Feeling Meng Jinhuai’s touch, the little child lying on the bed gave the man a somewhat puzzled look, and then his mouth began to hum some words that no one could understand. At this time, Duan Hengye didn’t stop Meng Jinhuai; instead, he leapt forward and also approached the crib, then hesitantly asked Meng Jinhuai, “Can I touch him too?”

“Of course, this is your son.” Meng Jinhuai, who had long since adapted to the status of “father,”  said it very naturally and then even turned sideways to give Duan Hengye a little bit of space. Hearing this, Duan Hengye slowly bent down, and he somewhat nervously stretched out his hand and slowly pressed it against his son’s chubby face.

After feeling Duan Hengye’s body temperature, the child suddenly narrowed his eyes and smiled at him.

At this moment, Duan Hengye’s heart became incomparably tender. “Hello, little guy.” He said it slowly.
