And this jealousy was probably related to humans.
Looking at the bionic people rushing over nearby and the calmly standing Jiu Shu not far away, Cory’s mind was in a state of turmoil.
Because he suddenly realised that, unlike those in the city who were in a state of confusion, obviously rejecting each other’s consciousnesses.
The bionic people in the vicinity of Jiu Shu were unusually harmonious, and when they saw that Jiu Shu was in danger, they immediately rushed up together.
This made Cory realise that even after splitting from the main body, each and every one of the consciousnesses still cared about that human named Jiu Shu.
They could even abandon their dislike and jealousy of each other to protect him.
Adam, did he really love that human so much?
“Leader, are we really doing the right thing?”
Just as Cory was caught up in the emotion of disbelief, his companion who was also looking at the cell phone monitor suddenly spoke out with a blank expression.
Because in the monitoring screen, the original appearance of the quiet and peaceful Seventh Metropolis was plunged into chaos in this short period of ten minutes.
Unlike the companion’s expectation of quickly and safely liberating all humans and bionics.
Instead of changing back to their original selves, the countless humans and bionics who were working and living by the book became restless after losing control of Adam’s main body.
They coincidentally rushed in the direction of the lower city, but now, as different individuals, conflicts inevitably arose among them.
They even began to ki-ll each other.
Looking at the originally clean city stained with the colour of bloo-d, the companion couldn’t help but fall into a state of sadness.
Although he had expected the city to fall into chaos after being infected with the virus, he thought that it would just be a small problem under the comfort of the leader, Cory.
He had never imagined that it would be so chaotic.
In comparison, the Seventh Metropolis wasn’t as bad as it had been when Adam ruled it; at least it was organised, no one was hurt, and no one was going crazy.
But perhaps that was the price that had to be paid to save the world.
Only by disconnecting all of Adam’s assimilated consciousnesses from the main body could the isolated main body be destroyed in the gradual deepening of the neurovirus.
“Their sacrifice is necessary.”
Cory replied heavily.
When the main body died completely, these consciousnesses would disappear as well, and they could be considered to have saved the Seventh City and even the entire world.
“But Leader, it’s been ten minutes since the virus spread.”
In the plan, the time for the virus to take effect was also this ten minutes, but until now, the signal fluctuation of the main body still hadn’t changed.
Obviously, the main body had survived, and there was no sign of it dying out.
Cory’s plan didn’t expect them to be able to eliminate the body at all.
And that meant the chaos was far from over.
The spread of the virus had only separated the consciousnesses, and the main body was still alive and well.
This wasn’t saving the Seventh Metropolis at all; it was just taking the city deeper into the abyss.
Cory sniffed and looked at the clock, his brow furrowed.
Indeed, according to the plan, within a few minutes after the injection of the virus, Adam’s main body would die under the virus, and then those out-of-control consciousnesses would also disappear instantly.
The entire city would change back to its original form.
Instead of the chaos it was now.
Cory was rarely at a loss for words.
“Could it be?”
Cory and his companion looked over to Jiu Shu as they dodged the nearby bionics.
The human who was suspected to be deeply loved by Adam had been standing quietly outside the old factory, as if waiting for someone to return.
He was the only one who was quiet around him in this chaotic and noisy Seventh City.
Could this change be due to this human as well?
As he thought about it, Cory’s mood became more and more depressed with it.
He hated to admit the obvious answer.
Adam, who he had always thought of as a crazy AI, had feelings and was in love with a human.
The answer made Cory feel ridiculous for his previous stubbornness.
But the truth was in front of him, and Cory had to admit it even if he didn’t want to.
Adam did care about the human.
The series of plans he had made earlier had also been completely wrong.
He was the one who had caused the deaths of his fellow team members.
Their earlier release of the virus in an attempt to k-ill Jiu Shu had been even more wrong.
It only angered Adam and brought about irreparable consequences.
Just like the current Seventh Metropolis, those out-of-control consciousnesses not only didn’t dissipate but were running amok.
A hint of chagrin began to spread over Cory’s mind at the thought.
He began to realise that it was his stubbornness that had harmed his fellow Resistance members.
If he hadn’t been prepared to make a move to ki-ll the humans that Adam cared about, Adam might not have come to his door at all, causing him to have to blow up his stronghold to save the others.
And, although he had saved the other strongholds for the time being, once the plan had failed and Adam himself had resolved the virus, what would greet them in the Resistance would be Adam’s brutal retaliation.
As a bionic who also loved humans, Cory understood how much a human could care about someone if they truly loved them.
Not to mention that Adam himself was insane.
Fuelled by the hurt of a loved one, he would only go crazier.
The expl-osions at the old factory were still going on now—a series of explo-sions and clouds of blast smoke that clouded the sky.
The bionic people assimilated by Adam were searching for the two.
Cory and his companion were hiding in the ruins outside the old factory, hiding themselves near the rubble of the buildings.
Thanks to the ruins, Cory and his companion were not torn apart by the spiteful bionics.
But they wouldn’t be able to hold out much longer.
Bang Bang!!!
After a short chase, Cory and his companions were ultimately unable to escape the bionic people.
After the g-unshot, Cory fell in a pool of blo-od.
He looked at the bionic people who were gradually approaching, his gaze sweeping through their pitch-black pupils.
His voice was hard. “Adam, are you really going to ki-ll those of us who created you?”
“Because of that human? Are you really in love with that human?”
Cory still held on to the slim hope that he hadn’t done so much wrong.
Instead, he was greeted with Adam’s icy stare down.
“You wanted to hurt him.”
“You deserve to die.”
Several bionics spoke in unison, as if still controlled by the same consciousness.
Cory was in utter despair.
“I was wrong, really wrong.”
Cory let out a heavy sigh and admitted his mistake.
But he still denied Adam’s assimilation of the entire city.
“I’m sorry for wanting to hurt your lover before; I shouldn’t have just assumed that you didn’t have feelings, but Adam, please don’t continue to assimilate; what you’re doing is wrong!”
Cory wasn’t happy about this after all.
He had come so far with his plan and had originally planned that if he could successfully eliminate Adam and save the world, the bionic people might be able to gain the respect of the humans as a result.
Now it was a lost cause.
“Adam, you were supposed to be what the Bionic people depended on, and now you’ve gone astray. I hope you remember what you were created for.”
Cory had injected the idea of loyalty to the bionic people into his program when he created Adam in the first place, but he hadn’t expected Adam to go crazy immediately he awakened, and not only had he forgotten his loyalty, but he actually fell in love with a human.
It was just an incomprehensible thing, and Cory felt justified in his initial misguided thoughts.
After all, although Adam was created with the intention of him having self-awareness and feelings, his feelings should be loyalty, not love for humans.
Listening to Cory’s words, the bionic man with the gu-n pointed at Cory walked up to him and crouched down, his pale face taking on a ghastly gloom.
“My name is not Adam.”
“Nor am I your creation.”
He was the lover of Jiu Shu only.
This bionic man who kept talking to him was really noisy.
He actually wanted to hurt Jiu Shu.
Bang!
G-unshot rang out again, and this time Cory was completely silent.
However, when the two bionics that had attempted to harm Jiu Shu were finished with, only the Adams were left in the ruins.
They looked at each other with disgust for each other in their eyes.
“Jiu Shu needs someone to protect him now; I’m enough; you guys leave.”
“I think you’re the one who should leave.”
The atmosphere between the several people became unusually subtle.
Although they all knew that Jiu Shu’s safety was important right now, they all wanted to go and protect Jiu Shu alone.
After all, in their opinion, only they were the most suitable existence to protect Jiu Shu.
“The main body is incompetent, so it’s only right that there should be a body of consciousness to replace him, and I think I’m just right.”
As the bionic man spoke, the corners of his mouth hooked up, and his indifferent expression became gentle, as if he imagined a beautiful life for himself and Jiu Shu after becoming the main body.
“No, I think you don’t fit Jiu Shu’s aesthetic; you should be replaced.” The other bionic spoke with an expressionless face.
“None of you seem to fit well.” Wiping the blood off his face, the third bionic man revealed a relatively pretty face.
In fact, as bionics, they all fit the human aesthetic, but it was from a different time period, and the third one did fit the current aesthetic.
“Jab,” the fourth bionic man didn’t say anything as he chose to rip off the arm of the bionic man next to him.
For he was about to take a shot with his g-un.
“Only the one that survives to the end is the most suitable.” With his pale face stained with bloo-d, the Fourth finally spoke.
The chaotic sounds of g-unshots and tearing of bionic parts soon resounded among the ruins, and crimson, sticky artificial bloo-d flowed all over the place.
The one who survived to the end was Number Four.
As he was relatively the most intact, only having lost an arm as well, he frowned and wiped the blo-od from his face.
Wanting to give Jiu Shu the best first impression possible.
“It’s just that it seems like Jiu Shu doesn’t know about you guys being bionic yet; is it okay to go straight over like this?”
“It’s fine, I’ll just lie and say that I’ve temporarily replaced my body; it just so happens that the Seventh Metropolitan Hospital has recently been piloting a bionic and human consciousness replacement surgery.”
“Won’t it be discovered?”
“Probably now, because Jiu Shu is a very gentle and easy to deceive person.” Number Four smiled as he recalled in a trance how clueless Jiu Shu had been when he was in Uptown.
But before he could finish his sentence, he suddenly felt that something was wrong—who was talking when he had ki-lled everyone?
Turning his head, Number Four saw Jiu Shu half crouching at his side with a smile on his face.
