C50 —- Bedtime Stories

As soon as he entered the library, Mu Sichen heard a crisp “pop,”  and then the vision of his left eye became fragmented.

It was the left lens of the golden glasses that shattered into a spider web.

Mu Sichen quickly removed the glasses and put them into his coat pocket.

Even so, the breakage of the golden glasses didn’t stop, another “pop,” and the glasses legs also began to crack.

Mu Sichen had to try to stuff it into the system space; at first the backpack rejected the golden glasses; it wasn’t until it was broken into cobwebs even on the right lens that the system backpack accepted the glasses and gave a new props profile.

Broken Glasses: Crushed by the power of the “One-Pupil Moon” in the Upper String Library, it had to be downgraded and hidden in the backpack of a Pillar-level player. In the future, when the time is right, the prop can be repaired.

Mu Sichen didn’t expect that Shen Jiyue would deal with the big eye until only a pair of glasses were left. Now even these glasses were still shattered in Shen Jiyue’s field; it was really a complete eradication.

These golden glasses were destined to be destroyed; even if Mu Sichen put them in the pocket or in the box, as long as they were still hidden star-level items and couldn’t be included in the system backpack, once they entered the library, they would be destroyed.

Unless Mu Sichen left it in his own semi-domain.

But it originally belonged to Tongzhi town, and Mu Sichen wasn’t sure if there was still any residue of the big-eye’s thoughts in the town. Once the glasses were picked up by some townspeople who still missed the days of Big Eyes’ rule when they could live from hand to mouth, something even more horrific might happen.

If that happened, then Mu Sichen would rather this convenient prop be destroyed.

Now that the golden glasses were only broken and hidden in the system backpack, there was still a chance to recover them later, which was already the best ending.

The most important thing now was to find He Fei and take back the library.

But the library was too strange.

Mu Sichen had already prepared to face a group of townspeople driven mad by the power of Shen Jiyue and the Big Eye when he entered the door and had already held the pickaxe in his hand, but there was no one inside.

Then he opened the phone to check the game app and saw that He Fei sent a few more bizarre messages.

Your brother Fei: [Mom, mom, am I the smartest little colourful fish?]

Your Brother Fei: [Hello everyone, I’m a little ant who wants to taste the flavour of ice and snow; today I’m setting off to the north with my backpack on, so please give me your blessing.]

Your Brother Fei: [How can I ki-ll the king and marry the queen?]

Your Brother Fei: [I’ve been hanging on the city wall for ten days now, and I’m very curious to know what the King is thinking right now; I’ve decided to hang the King up tonight as well, to empathise with and understand him].

Your Brother Fei: [Was the Queen deceived by that mirror?]

Your Brother Fei: [So I’m Nuwa’s clay point man.]

Your Brother Fei: [How on earth did we get the spaceship to this planet full of parasitic insectoids? Can we still return?]

Mu Sichen: “……”

Combining this information, it wasn’t hard to imagine what He Fei encountered.

He probably entered a book.

But the book didn’t seem to be that dangerous, and He Fei ran into several books to role-play.

It seemed that there wasn’t anyone in this library; they were all in the books.

Strangely enough, ever since Mu Sichen logged into the game, he couldn’t see Chi Lian and Cheng Xubo’s messages in the group chat. Mu Sichen tried to @ the two, but as long as he brought tagged the two, he couldn’t send a message, and he didn’t know if they could see He Fei’s screen-swipe-like messages.

Mu Sichen also tried to contact He Fei, telling him to be careful, who knew that He Fei wouldn’t react to his messages and seemed to not be able to see Mu Sichen’s messages either.

Only Mu Sichen was able to see He Fei’s messages unilaterally, and they didn’t look like He Fei’s own style; they may not have come from him but rather looked like a book synopsis automatically sent by the system.

At present, it seemed that if he wanted to save He Fei, he had to enter the book to find him, and if he wanted to find the pillar, it seemed that he needed to enter the book as well, but it was inappropriate to rush in unprepared, or at least he had to figure out the pattern of entering the book and the way to leave the book.

Mu Sichen didn’t rush to open any of the books as he cautiously observed the library.

The library was a circular building, divided into three floors. The hall on the first floor had many desks for reading and studying, and raising his head, he could see the ceiling on the top floor.

Each floor was built around a wall, with rows of bookshelves on the inside and rows of seats for reading on the outside.

People on the second and third floors could look down at the hall on the first floor if they were tired of reading, or they could look at the scenery outside the windows.

Of course, there was no scenery outside the window at this time, only a cloud of fog.

On the first floor hall, where the entrance door was, there was a piece of paper with very strange words written on it.

“The eyes want to find me; the moon wants to find me; I’m in a book, and I’m not in a book. I’m nowhere to be found, and I’m everywhere.”

What was this “I”? Was it the pillar? If so, wasn’t the pillar in the library a bit too humanized? Was it because of the power of the Big Eye and Shen Jiyue’s dominance that caused a certain degree of humanisation?

This was possible.

The “pillar” originally relied on absorbing people’s emotional energy to maintain its operation. The first two “pillars” that Mu Sichen came into contact with were contradictory to the Big Eye, with certain rules and order, but relatively stupid, not adaptable, only able to operate like a program, and often had bugs.

Now, under the influence of Shen Jiyue’s power, under the impact of the old and new forces, the “pillar” showed a certain intelligence and began to avoid Shen Jiyue’s pursuit, scattering itself in the book.

This was a problem.

No matter how difficult it was to find the “pillar” of the sanatorium, there was only one seven-story building in the area, so it never exceeded that range.

Even if the area of the processing plant was large, the location of the “pillar” was also fixed; as long as there was enough sense of superiority and the courage to challenge the supervisor, anyone could reach the “pillar” in front.

But in the library, if the “pillar” was hidden in the world of books, how could he find it?

Taking a look at the message sent by He Fei. In just one hour, He Fei changed themes almost every ten minutes, from children’s stories to classic fairy tales, from dog bloo-d novels to science fiction stories, from N ü wa’s creation of humans to the interstellar era. He could probably keep going for five thousand years.

[TN: dog bl-ood — a person would sprinkle the “狗血 (gǒuxiě) dog blo-od” to drive evil spirits away if someone was controlled by a menacing evil. Later, people use “狗血 (gǒuxiě)” to joke about the use of the same old, repeated boring scenes or story sequences in a TV drama or film.]

The scope of this “pillar” was the smallest Mu Sichen had encountered so far; it was a small building with only three floors, but it was also the largest; it was in every book.

The most dangerous thing was that, through the sentence “Eyes want to find me, the moon also wants to find me,”  Mu Sichen suspected that Shen Jiyue’s clone or his dependents were hidden in a book.

When working in the processing plant, Shen Jiyue’s spiritual descent was achieved by polluting Mu Sichen and silently occupying the “pillar.”.

Later, Mu Sichen eliminated the contamination of Shen Jiyue in his body and expelled Shen Jiyue so Shen Jiyue could only forcefully occupy the library, once again descending.

This proved that for Shen Jiyue at that time, the best way to descend was to utilise Mu Sichen’s “pillar” and that he forcibly occupied the library out of necessity.

Judging from Yao Wangping’s attitude towards the “pillar,”  Mu Sichen believed that god-level monsters treated the “pillar” in a different way than he did.

Mu Sichen’s treatment of the “pillar” was to “dig in” and use his ability to forcefully transform the power of the “pillar” into his own power.

On the other hand, Yao Wangping chose to use Qin Zu’s power to destroy the pillar. Was it possible that the god-level monsters were more inclined to rebuild their own pillars after completely destroying them rather than occupying them?

Qin Zu had also accused Mu Sichen of not keeping his promise in the beginning, and it was only after Mu Sichen had obtained the “pillar” that he changed his mode of cooperation and assisted Mu Sichen in obtaining the second “pillar,”  and at the same time, he carried out a godly descent under Mu Sichen’s authorisation.

Therefore, at that time, Shen Jiyue was in a hurry and imitated Mu Sichen, using his far superior strength to forcibly change the name of the library, but in reality, he didn’t fully grasp the power here.

If Shen Jiyue at that time completely devoured the big-eye, perhaps the library’s “pillar” would no longer resist and be directly transformed into Shen Jiyue’s power.

But on the other hand, the other half of the big eye was snatched away by Qin Zu; Shen Jiyue failed to get all the power, unable to make the library completely belong to Him.

Since this was the case, he would definitely send someone into the library to look for the “pillar,”  which explained that “the moon also wants to find me.”.

god-level monsters couldn’t easily leave their own towns. Shen Jiyue could observe and dominate his subordinates through the mirror, but he wouldn’t come down with his own body.

So the “moon” referred to here should be the dependents with Shen Jiyue’s totem, and it was very likely that there was more than one.

This time entering the game, he had to protect He Fei, find the “pillar,”  and guard against Shen Jiyue’s dependents.

This battle was so hard to fight, Ah, Mu Sichen rubbed his forehead.

Mu Sichen regretted not letting Chi Lian enter the game. At this point, her face-changing ability was really useful, at least to temporarily deceive the eyes of Shen Jiyue’s dependents.

But on second thought, Chi Lian probably couldn’t enter this copy.

He needed the little octopus for harmless treatment even though he entered on his own. Who would Chi Lian and Cheng Xubo go to for harmless treatment??

This “pillar” was destined to only be played by himself.

The good thing was that from the message sent by He Fei, he could see that when he entered the book, he may not always maintain the appearance of a human being and may be a small, colourful fish or ant.

He didn’t believe that if he turned into an ant, Shen Jiyue’s dependents would still be able to recognise him.

After Mu Sichen read the note on the first floor, he didn’t rush to flip through the book; he walked upstairs and found the second note; what was written on it was even more chilling.

“I am a lover of books; I want to read all the books in this world, and I thank my Lord for giving me eyes that can read books forever. My Lord has not completely fallen; He is in my heart, in books, and in the reverent sight of all.”

The “I” on the second note was obviously no longer a “pillar,”  and analysing the statement, it should be the dependents of the Big Eye who were sticking around the library.

It seemed that Big Eye had left behind his resurrection point here, and if not handled properly, the Big Eye might come back to life.

No wonder the note on the first floor mentioned “the eyes want to find me.”  It seemed that the Big Eye also needed the power of the “pillar.”.

Mu Sichen put down the note and turned around on the second floor and found a desk covered with white bookmarks. The top bookmark had half an eye drawn on it, but it came to an abrupt end before it was finished, and the bookmark was also torn in half by some force.

There were bookmarks on some of the shelves as well, but they were all white.

Mu Sichen felt that these bookmarks had their use, so he ventured to take two white ones without any patterns or handwriting.

Then, Mu Sichen walked towards the third floor.

Sure enough, the staircase on the third floor was similarly labelled with a note, and the content of the note was even stranger.

“I love the sky, I love the ocean, I love the earth, I love the stars, and I love the universe of knowledge. Thank you, my Lord, for the eyes that can see everything; thank you, my Lord, for the moonlight that illuminates my soul.”

The “I” in this note didn’t feel like a person, with inconsistent words and confused beliefs.

Mu Sichen suspected that the subject of the note on the third floor was the townspeople who were trapped inside the library; they were the followers of the Big Eye in the beginning, and after Shen Jiyue incompletely seized the library, some of them became Shen Jiyue’s followers, and that was why there was a sense of the note talking in seven different languages.

Seemingly confirming Mu Sichen’s speculation, there were more small items on the bookshelves and desks on the third floor.

For example, reading notes spread out on the desk, pens on the bookshelf, some presbyopia glasses, tissues, thermos cups, etc. were spread out on the books, and small mirrors that made Mu Sichen feel uncomfortable when he saw them.

In addition to this, there was a curved upward moon suspended above the dome; the entire library had no lights; all the light came from this moon.

Mu Sichen understood that when the moon became full, the library would completely belong to Shen Jiyue, then the rules of this place would definitely change, and he may not be able to retrieve the “pillar” from the hands of a Sheltering Sun.

He had to act quickly.

But which book on which floor should he start with? There were so many books here, he couldn’t possibly browse through all of them; that would consume too much time.

His goal was to find the “Pillar,”  so it would be better to start from the first floor, where the information about the “Pillar” was written.

As for He Fei, Mu Sichen wasn’t sure that he could accurately find the book where He Fei was from this huge amount of books.

After all, while Mu Sichen was gathering information, He Fei changed books again.

Your Brother Fei: [Who can tell me why he can plan to cut off my corneas and give them to his white moonlight even after marrying me? Why don’t you use your own corneas if you want to save your white moonlight? I’m going to learn how to make a potion, and I’ll charm him and send him to cut his own cornea tonight!]

This time it was probably a dog blo-od  literature. He Fei’s scope was too broad; even if Mu Sichen went to the book he was in, he wouldn’t know where He Fei went.

From the information that He Fei constantly sent out, he seemed to be living quite well in the book.

K-illing the king and marrying the queen, hanging the king who hung him on the city wall, and being able to dispense medicine to charm the scum to cut his corneas, there was no need to worry about him for… the time being, right?

Or he’d first find the “pillar.”  When this space was dominated by Mu Sichen, He Fei would naturally appear.

So Mu Sichen went to the first floor, flipped down the book classification table, and got to the “bedtime stories” area.

It wasn’t that he felt that children’s literature was safer, but the bedtime stories in this library were different from the ones he was familiar with.

Let’s talk about the book that Mu Sichen picked up. Whose bedtime story was called ‘Once upon a time, there was an eye that longed to see everything in the world’?
