C19

The image from the hovering camera responsible for tracking was extremely clear, and the big “S” on the light screen was hard to ignore. After the camera zoomed in, Meng Jinhuai on the other side remained silent for a long time.

As a marshal of the empire, Meng Jinhuai knew better than anyone what “S-class mental energy” actually represented. It was an armor operation sensitivity dozens or even hundreds of times greater than that of an ordinary armor warrior, and it was a strength sufficient to be a general. Even more exaggeratedly, there was a dimensional gap between zero Spiritual Strength and “S-grade Spiritual Strength”.

For the most part, mental strength was a private matter, and it was only after one had successfully joined the Mecha Legion that one’s mental strength become public. The Star Era’s privacy and secrecy system coupled with more than ten years of time, even Meng Jinhuai, he was now unable to tell – did Duan Hengye really lose his mental strength by accident like the legend said, or… was it all just a hoax?

If it was an accident, when did he get his mental strength back? If it wasn’t an accident, then what exactly was Duan Hengye’s purpose in hiding everything?

Although he usually always looked gentle and harmless in front of Duan Hengye, anyone who had some contact with Meng Jinhuai at work knew how terrifying the Lord Marshal was. He was a truly superior person, someone who was used to having everything firmly in his hands, someone who was used to being all-knowing.

But today, after seeing Duan Hengye’s mental strength from the light screen, something completely unguessable finally happened in Meng Jinhuai’s life….

Duan Hengye who was busy tinkering with the armor didn’t know that because of him, his spouse who was secretly spying on him had begun to doubt life, but this was the first time in Meng Jinhuai’s life.

Judging from his attainments in ancient martial arts and research, Duan Hengye could indeed be called a genius. Although he had gotten used to the setting that he might have a little more talent than normal people, but after seeing the large letter “S” on the light screen, the cold professor Duan still couldn’t help but whisper a little “S”.

According to Duan Hengye’s knowledge, only those few generals in the Ye Tian Empire currently had S-class mental energy. It wasn’t an exaggeration to say that this was a probability of one in ten billion or even less… He really didn’t expect that the original owner had such a high mental power before the accident.

Just like many Earthlings had had a military position…. and some fantasized about becoming a pilot, almost every citizen of the Interstellar Era aspired to personally master this steel beast that symbolized the strongest technological deterrence, thus showing the charm of the armor.

Duan Hengye who was currently in the cockpit of the armor L-039 was naturally in an incomparably excited mood, but after successfully opening the armor, he didn’t move the armor and continued to stay in place.

Duan Hengye’s spirit was highly concentrated, then he put all his attention on probing the internal structure of the armor. The temperature in the night of the Duogang Star was about twelve degrees Celsius, but even in such a slightly cool weather, Duan Hengye’s forehead was already unknowingly covered with fine beads of sweat. Under the light, it was as if it was covered with a layer of fine diamonds.

Duan Hengye was so anxious to fly this armor not simply to test his mental strength, but also to get out of the bottleneck period of research as soon as possible.

S-grade spirit plus a high level of understanding of L-039, even though he didn’t have the slightest experience before, but in just a few minutes, Duan Hengye was able to comb through the entire structure of the armor through his spirit.

This was it! When his mental energy detected a corner of the armor, Duan Hengye couldn’t help but take a deep breath, and his hand, which was quietly hanging on the control panel, slowly clenched into a fist and then loosened. This feeling of mental energy suddenly stagnating might not occur to others, but to Duan Hengye it was absolutely impossible to ignore. Due to its effect, his heart also beat rapidly.

Meng Jinhuai also saw Duan Hongyu’s strange performance on the light screen, and he slowly clenched his hands, waiting for the other party’s next move. Seeing this Meng Jinhuai also finally understood what Duan Hengye was doing today – if he remembered correctly, the previous president of the Mecha Research Institute and Duan Hengye’s father was a researcher whose mental power reached 80. Relying on his extremely high mental strength and familiarity with the internal structure of the armor, the last President Duan had taken the armor design industry a big step forward in just over a decade.

There was a specialization in the arts, and although he possessed 3S level mental strength, even Meng Jinhuai couldn’t perceive the problems in the internal structure of the armor with his mental strength.

Duan Hengye’s talent was definitely not inferior to his father’s, and unconsciously, Meng Jinhuai’s eyes when he looked at the light screen actually took on some anticipation: he was looking forward to the future of Duan Hengye, who possessed excellent talent and S-grade mental strength.

……..

Sitting in the driver’s seat, Duan Hengye couldn’t help but get excited, but he didn’t forget about the main matter. After calming his emotions, Duan Hengye then jotted down the locations of all these points. Only after confirming it several more times did Professor Duan breathe a sigh of relief.

After taking a glance at the time, although Duan Hengye was very reluctant to leave the cockpit of the armor, he decided to leave the armor as soon as possible in order to avoid unnecessary trouble.

After slowly retrieving his mental energy, Duan Hengye pressed the hibernation button without hesitation. At the same time, a feeling of exhaustion came heavily at him – unlike the spiritual power that had been raised to S-grade, although there was the use of ancient martial arts to refine his body, Duan Hengye’s physical quality was still far below the average level of the stars.

Overly concentrated mentally just now, Duan Hengye had ignored his physical discomfort. It was only after he stepped out of the driver’s seat that he finally felt his entire body de-energized, while every joint on his body began to ache, as if he had accidentally fallen from a high place.

After only about ten minutes of powering up, the physical exertion was actually so great… How strict the requirements of the various values of the human body were for Mecha piloting, now Duan Hengye finally had an intuitive experience.

Forcing himself to endure the discomfort on his body, the man dressed in black held onto the back of the chair and slowly walked towards the exit. But before he could go too far, Duan Hengye felt a blackness before his eyes, then he fell directly onto the floor. At the moment when his knees touched the ground, Duan Hengye could not help but suck in a mouthful of cold air.

Professor Duan who fell in an abnormal mess at this time only had one thought in his mind – the floor inside the armor is too hard! I’ve got to carpet the next generation armor!

Coincidentally, despite the fact that the micro-camera could track and film, the spot where Duan Hengye fell was right in the dead end of its surveillance. Meng Jinhuai and the assistant of Duan Hengye only saw that the man in the surveillance camera didn’t appear long after he disappeared from the cockpit, as if he had evaporated from the earth.

For a while, the two people who were watching the surveillance couldn’t help but get nervous.

Where exactly did Duan Hengye go? Was there an accident?

On Southern Star, Meng Jinhuai, who was sitting watching the surveillance, stood up from behind his desk. His lips were tightly pursed and tense, as if he was about to go out to the starship at any moment to look for Duan Hengye in An Luo.

Unlike the silent Meng Jinhuai, seeing that Duan Hengye hadn’t come out of his armor for a long time, the assistant couldn’t help but absentmindedly get up.

“Lord Marshal, if needed, I can now go to An Luo’s villa to take a look…” he said somewhat urgently to Meng Jinhuai. But before the Lord Marshal could respond, the two of them finally saw Duan Hengye appear in the light screen once more.

Although his footsteps were still a bit flimsy, Duan Hengye had finally managed to climb up. He first leaned against the wall to rest after stepping out of the armor, then he slowly used his mental energy to retrieve L-039 back into the stamp.

Now without the armor’s blocking and light interference, Meng Jinhuai finally saw Duan Hengye’s appearance clearly at this time. He was in a very bad state, putting aside his pale complexion, Duan Hengye’s movement of bending down to pick up the stamp was not very steady anymore, and it looked like he was recovering from a serious illness.

Undoubtedly, Duan Hengye’s appearance was so outstanding that even the most famous movie stars in the empire couldn’t compare to him. But for the most part, this exquisite face was expressionless. But at this moment, when no one was around at night, Duan Hengye finally showed a bit of the vulnerability that he normally concealed so well, and this delicate face finally had some “popularity”.

……..

Shortly after Duan Hengye entered the room, Meng Jinhuai cut off the image on the light screen. He sat back down in his chair, and then sent a message to his subordinate that seemed very unusual on the other side – to shorten the trips to other star systems that had already been decided upon, and to move most of his work, except for important matters, to the Southern Star to be completed later.

  1. Thanks for the new chapter! Our MC is gaining back some respect that ML had initially.

    1. Like it’s cute and all but a part of me us uncomfortable about the lack of privacy Duan receives, it’s wrong and not okay to publicise his personal life with all those assistants of ML no matter how righteous he’s trying to be I just don’t like that

      1. you may have forgotten but he’s technically a spy who could’ve potentially led him to his demise.

as much as i dislike the ml’s way, he’s just doing his job as a marshal who is in-charge of the lives of countless soldiers.
and also because you can’t speak about trust between them.

  3. Poor Duan Hengye is racing against the clock to find a way to survive. Hopefully he’ll continue to confound Meng Jinhuai thus buying himself some time.
