C5 — Strange Tales by the Lakeside

At exactly nine o’clock, the massive moon hung high in the sky, overlooking the entire view of the Golden Lake. The clouds in the sky seemed to have predicted danger and hid out of sight, leaving only a strange full moon in the sky, shrouded in a hazy mist, as if covered in a layer of frosted glass.

Zhuo Yu sat by the fire; his thoughts shifted, and he instinctively looked up at the sky.

Somehow, a strange memory flooded into his mind.

In the local area, the huge, eerie moon was so big and close that one could almost see the crater known as Hunter’s Moon. Some hunters lurking in unknown corners would be hunting today.

He seemed to have seen such a moon a long time ago.

Zhuo Yu frowned. He didn’t like the feeling of being influenced by the character, and he was certain that his recent memories were from that “unknown character.”.

He looked at the seniors, who were unaware of anything unusual, and he didn’t want to join Zhou Wu’s bragging convention, so he silently took out a book from the side pocket of his wheelchair.

Zhuo Yu found this book, Seven Days of Talk, on his bedside table, but instead of the famous French book, it was written by a local.

This thin booklet recorded the stories passed down on their land.

Before Spanish colonizers discovered Florida, it was still the homeland of Native Americans, so the story had a strong Inca style, more like a religious book than a story.

Zhuo Yu had already rummaged through it on the first night, but there were not many clues inside. It only told the story of a deity’s seven-day suffering. He was tormented by fools for seven days and eventually died in a spring, turning into a lake.

And the foolish people not only didn’t receive punishment but also found that drinking spring water could lead to immortality and eternal youth.

That was the story of Bu Lao Quan.

Not only was it recorded in this book, but in reality, Florida had also gained a great reputation in real history due to the legend of the Fountain of Youth.

In 1943, a man named Juan Ponce de Leon followed Columbus to America and became the first Spanish to set foot on the New World. In the local area, he heard many novel legends from the Indian population, and the stories of the Fountain of Youth circulated among these mysterious tribes, which was obviously more attractive to de Leon than gold and silver.

In order to search for the Fountain of Youth, he consulted the King of Spain and drifted in the sea for several years before finally discovering this treasure trove in Florida.

However, before he could find the Fountain of Youth, he died in a struggle with the natives. Florida also became a colony of Spain, and a long period of war broke out. No one cared about those illusory legends anymore, but they crazily plundered this fertile land.

Later on, Florida became the territory of the United States due to its unique beauty and climate, becoming a famous “paradise on earth.” In the scorching heat, it became the most populous, diverse, and chaotic capital of the Americas.

There were hot bikinis, intoxicating golden beaches, and the Fountain of Youth flowing in the souls of Native Americans here, but it was nowhere to be found.

Zhuo Yu put down “Seven Days of Talk” and looked at the shimmering lake. Was it…

Before he could pronounce the name ‘Golden Lake’ in his mind, the system went online.

[Plot completion: Four young people in Spring Town ignore the terrifying rumors of Golden Lake in the local area and hold a camping trip here, which is like a death-seeking journey. The danger of the first night is in front of them, but no one notices anything unusual. Jack still enjoys his leisure time here as planned, but little does he know that on the second night, they will encounter the most unforgettable scene of their lives; after all, Golden Lake hates outsiders.]

The system made a mechanical and cold sound, and then it issued a command.

【 Pre-task: Enjoy the fun of the Golden Lake scenic area. Completed. 】

[Main Task Update: Escape, do your best, escape!] [Please survive until dawn!]

At the same time, the entire comment section in the viewing area boiled over.

[Coming Coming!!! The second day of the Seven-Day Talk!]

[The boss is coming! Boss!!]

[Damn it, upstairs, can we not get spoilers for what you’ve seen? Who’ll report this?]

[Hahaha, I’m really looking forward to them being slaughtered.]

[Is it scary to watch this movie for the first time?]

[Upstairs, this is a super horrible plasma film. I was lucky enough to have seen it once, and I puked straight away. Those corpses are nothing, it’s mainly the boss; he’s really too brutal; that method is simply extremely violent!]

[I laughed. Golden Lake hates outsiders so much. At first, it didn’t take it seriously and sent a Yin corpse. Now it should be angry and ashamed.]

[So why did Zhuo Yu survive? This kid really hid his character and skills! Bah, Black Hearted Lotus!]

[TN: black hearted lotus — someone that is malicious, petty, cruel and manipulative.]

[Who cares so much? Everyone is looking at the blo-ody scene.]

The extremely cold-blo-oded barrage pool kept rolling, just like a golden lake suddenly rolling with waves.

At the moment Zhou Wu saw the task, he was so scared that the water bottle in his hand fell to the ground. Other players were also alert and gathered back-to-back. When the lake water surged with waves, everyone threw away their things; some ran towards the RV and some hid in the cabin, suddenly the scene became chaotic.

Zhou Wu rushed towards the RV at the first moment, only to find out in despair that it couldn’t start. Just like in all horror movies, at critical moments, transportation would always fail.

He gritted his teeth, turned around, and ran towards the wooden house, using his physique to push Li Mingfeng out of the way, almost falling in the process. But Zhou Wu didn’t care anymore. He didn’t even glance at Mu Ying and rushed straight into the door.

The other few people followed closely into the room, leaving Zhuo Yu alone outside, struggling to turn the wheels of the wheelchair and being obstructed by grass, trees, and stones.

With a bang, the door closed in front of Zhuo Yu.

The senior members looked at Fang Hao, who had closed the door, with a hint of disagreement in their eyes, but no one stopped him.

“Don’t worry about that disabled person; our lives are the most important. There are indeed monsters in the lake!!” Fang Hao was like a stretched bow, and applying a little more external force would break his nerves.

At this point, Zhou Wu didn’t insult them for their low psychological resilience, because if it were him, he would also do the same.

He pulled out his hand g-un, which had a very ancient style. It was a revolver with only six bullets inside. He ran in a hurry just now and didn’t have time to retrieve the boxes of bullets from the RV, which made him very frustrated.

He didn’t know if the hand gu-n would work on the creatures in horror movies.

Except for Zhou Wu, everyone else was also panting, and their heads felt like it was about to explode from fear. They widened their eyes like quails and dared not speak.

However, one minute passed, two minutes passed, but there was still no movement outside.

The actors who calmed down looked at each other, but no one dared to go out and watch.

There were three thuds, scaring Fang Hao so much that he almost jumped up, and before he could pull his legs out and run, Zhuo Yu’s voice came from outside.

“It’s me; there’s nothing outside; let me in.”

After a moment of doubt, everyone finally opened a small slit and reluctantly let Zhuo Yu in.

Zhou Wu breathed a sigh of relief as he struggled to push the two sofas towards the door, blocking it tightly. This time, he wouldn’t let anyone open it.

Zhuo Yu had no expression on his face, let alone the resentment of being abandoned. He just shook his sore wrist and said calmly to Fang Hao, “Do you want to take a look? There’s really nothing.”

Fang Hao stood trembling by the window, and upon hearing Zhuo Yu’s words, he really poked his head to look.

It didn’t matter; at first glance, his heart almost stopped suddenly.

Outside the window were densely packed, swollen, and pale human figures, some with their chests split open and their internal organs rolling down to the ground, some with missing arms and legs, constantly wriggling on the ground. The Yin corpses saw Fang Hao’s shocked face through the window crack, screaming and wailing, but their screams were filled with excitement at seeing prey, they all twisted and crawled towards the cabin.

“There’s a monster! The monsters are here!”

Before the words could be finished, all the monsters suddenly stopped moving. As if the flock of sheep, scared by a higher-level predator; they all frantically fled in all directions.

At this moment, a huge crocodile suddenly appeared outside the window, emitting a tanned leather scent. It was obvious that it had been dead for a long time, with only deep lake-like eyes facing Fang Hao’s eyes.

A teammate’s popping yell rang out along with the sound of shattering glass!

“Get away from the window!” Zhou Wu’s eyes widened in anger.

It was already too late.

The crocodile suddenly stood up, and under the animal’s head was a sturdy man’s body. A muscular arm broke through the window, splattering glass and wood shavings everywhere. Before Fang Hao could react, his neck was grabbed.

The newcomer was the water ghost and evil spirit in the mouths of the town residents.

Zhou Wu shouted loudly upon seeing the situation, he drew his gu-n, and fired, but the bullet hit the monster without any effect, not even causing his figure to shake for a moment. He immediately put away his gu-n and pulled Mu Ying to escape to the second floor.

With a creaking sound, Fang Hao’s congested face turned purple, and a large amount of blo-od gushed out of his mouth, causing his throat bone to be crushed.

On the stairs, Zhou Wu’s heart was also about to jump out. If he had some confidence before, it had shattered in all directions. Even with his proud physique and strong strength, he was laughable in comparison to this monster.

He was 1.85 meters tall, while the man with the crocodile head could be seen to be over 2 meters tall. The monster-like, strong physique caused overwhelming shock, and with just one glance, it made people feel hopeless.

He wouldn’t survive for three seconds in the opponent’s hands.

The monster let go, and Fang Hao immediately fell to the ground, convulsing uncontrollably. The sound of heavy footsteps came from the main entrance.

With one kick, the two overlapping door-blocking sofas were kicked open, and the door was filled with cold air.

“Run!”

Zhou Wu picked up Mu Ying’s hand and continued running towards the skylight. The extreme fear made him ignore Zhuo Yu, who was closest to the monster. He spent the fastest time in his life climbing the stairs, and there was still a bit of happiness in his heart.

The next one was probably Zhuo Yu. Although he couldn’t apologize, he still hoped that Zhuo Yu’s death could delay him for a few minutes.

The crocodile-headed man bent down and entered the wooden house, blocking the howling wind as he stood at the door. He was holding a giant axe in his hand, which reflected a chilling light.

Fang Hao, who was covering his throat, didn’t know how he had really persevered. He wasn’t in control, but the desire for survival in his eyes grew stronger. He stood up with all his might, and the first thing he did wasn’t to run away but to push Zhuo Yu towards the monster in order to gain an opportunity.

Zhuo Yu was pushed to the ground with a huge force, and his wheelchair overturned and spun on one side, only a few steps away from the monster.

Fang Hao used up all his last strength and now fell onto the wooden floor as if drained, like a maggot, coughing up bl-ood and wriggling his body to escape.

Move forward a little further.

Just go a little further.

Someone else would be k-illed, not him! He was only a freshman and he was still very young. He couldn’t just die like this!

Fang Hao’s eyes were bloo-dshot, as if he were a madman.

In an instant, a sharpened fork pierced through his wrist and nailed him directly to the ground.

“Ah… Ah…!!!”

Fang Hao wanted to scream, but his broken throat couldn’t make any sound, and he could only gasp for breath like a broken bellow. He struggled to lift his head and saw Zhuo Yu cunningly smile at him.

“Darling, where do you want to go?”

And Zhuo Yu was still holding the fork handle in his hand.
